Dimensions is hosting a Welcome Open House for Dimensions Family School Chatham on Saturday March 4, to explore and assess the community’s interest in an August opening. Come at 3:00 pm to explore the space and stay for dinner at 5:00 pm. You may RSVP for dinner online.

The new site is nestled in a vibrant community in Moncure, one that includes several home schooling families and neighbors with a variety of backgrounds and skills to share. The surrounding property includes 150 acres of forested trails, vegetable farms, an orchard, goat, hog, and chicken husbandry programs, a metal working studio, a creek, fish pond, a swimming pond, and a playing field. Located at the southern tip of Jordan Lake, it is a 10 minute drive to Pittsboro, a half hour to Cary and Chapel Hill/Carrboro, and 45 minutes to Dimensions Durham.

Dimensions plans to provide daily transportation between the Durham and Chatham locations. Proposed programming includes Outdoor Kindergarten for Discovery students, project-based courses in creek and ecosystem monitoring, growing, cooking, and selling crops (including fresh-made lunch with student grown food), animal husbandry, aquaponics system management, construction. Numerous possibilities for internships and independent studies abound with locals who do metalworking, new construction and remodeling, and permaculture landscape design. Clubs for frisbee golf, trail running, astronomy are possibilities. The indoor school site will have a full kitchen as well as space for group classes and independent study.

We look forward to introducing everyone to the space, to get feedback on what kinds of programming is desired, and how you would like to contribute your skills.
